About Inpainting.app

Inpainting.app is a small set of free photo tools — an object remover, a background remover and an image upscaler — built on open-source AI models. Instead of sending your pictures to a server, the site downloads the model to your browser once and runs it on your own device with WebGPU or WebAssembly.

How it works

The editor is served from a separate address (tool.inpainting.app) that contains no ads, analytics or third-party code. When you use a tool for the first time, you are asked before the model is downloaded. The model files are then stored in your browser so the next visit starts immediately and works offline.

• RMBG-1.4 by BRIA AI — Background remover. License: CC BY-NC 4.0 (non-commercial).
• Real-ESRGAN General x4v3 and x4plus — Image upscaler. License: BSD-3-Clause.
• ONNX Runtime Web — Runs the models in your browser. License: MIT.

The models are distributed unmodified from their public releases. The background remover page carries no advertising because RMBG-1.4 is licensed for non-commercial use.

The before-and-after examples on this site were produced with our own tools from sample photos distributed with scikit-image: the espresso cup by Rachel Michetti and the cat by Stefan van der Walt (both CC0), a Falcon 9 launch pad by SpaceX and a portrait of astronaut Eileen Collins by NASA (both public domain).
